Skilled Worker, Health and Care, partnersApplying for a United Kingdom visa and been asked for a criminal record certificate? For South Africans that means a police clearance certificate from the South African Police Service (SAPS), issued recently and matching your passport exactly. MGA Experiences manages the certificate from start to finish, whether you are still in South Africa or already in the United Kingdom: preparation, checks against SAPS requirements, submission, tracking and delivery, with the apostille added where your sponsor asks for it.

The Home Office asks for a criminal record certificate on these routes, and many sponsors and regulators ask for one even where the visa rules do not.
Not on the list? Sponsors, employers and professional bodies can still require one. Tell us the route you are applying under and we will confirm what you need. For the certificate itself, see our police clearance certificate guide.
The certificate needs to be current when you apply, so the certificate and the visa submission are planned together. Tell us your application date and we plan backwards from it.
A certificate is needed from each country outside the United Kingdom where you have lived for twelve months or more in the last ten years, while aged eighteen or over. South Africa is only one of them if you have lived elsewhere.
The SAPS certificate is issued in English, so no translation is needed, but the names and identity details must match your passport exactly or the application is queried.
SAPS controls the processing time; these three preventable problems are what actually cause delays.
Sets taken abroad are a common reason files are returned, and you will not find out for weeks. We confirm the SAPS requirements with you before your fingerprints are taken, wherever you are.
A maiden name on the ID, a married name on the passport, or a missing middle name is enough to stall both the certificate and the visa. We cross-check every document against your passport before the application is lodged.
When the certificate and the visa submission are handled separately, one ends up waiting on the other and the application is held up. We plan the certificate against your visa submission date, not in isolation.
One consultant manages the application from start to finish, in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban or London.
We complete the SAPS forms with you, assemble the supporting documents and review everything against current requirements, so nothing is missing when it reaches SAPS.
We monitor the application through the process and report at each stage, across time zones by email or WhatsApp, so you are not chasing SAPS from abroad. We can also arrange collection and delivery of your documents, locally and internationally.
The Home Office does not require an apostille on the certificate for the visa itself. Some employers, regulators and universities do, and if yours does we plan it into the same job.
Apply on your own at a police station and you join the general SAPS queue, which offers no expedited service to the public. MGA Experiences is known for quick turnaround times through our managed submission channel.
For United Kingdom applicants the timing question is really about the visa, so we work backwards from your intended submission date.
Applying from inside the United Kingdom adds courier time in both directions. See how long a police clearance takes and police clearance from abroad.
Start early
A certificate of sponsorship, a visa appointment and a start date all wait on the same document. The earlier we start against your submission date, the more options you have.
Tell us your intended submission date at the first conversation. It changes what we recommend.

The South African side of the process is the same wherever you are. What changes is where the fingerprints are taken and how the documents travel.
From South Africa
One visit to a police station for SAPS fingerprints, then MGA Experiences prepares, submits, tracks and delivers. If your sponsor or regulator also wants an apostille, we plan it into the same job so everything is ready for your application.
From inside the United Kingdom
The Home Office requirement applies to applications made from outside the United Kingdom. If an employer, a regulator or a later application asks you for a South African certificate while you are here, your fingerprints can be taken at the South African High Commission, MGA Experiences advises you and makes the arrangements, and the finished certificate comes back to you by tracked courier. See police clearance from abroad.
Lived in other countries too? The Home Office asks for a certificate from each country outside the United Kingdom where you have lived for twelve months or more in the last ten years, while aged eighteen or over. We can only assist with the South African one, but we will tell you early if the timing of the others matters.
Straight answers
No. The Home Office requires a criminal record certificate from Skilled Worker applicants in health, education, social care and therapy roles, including the Health and Care Worker visa, and from partners applying with them. Sponsors and professional bodies often ask for one on other routes too, so confirm with them and with us.
Not for the Home Office application itself. Some employers, regulators and universities do ask for an apostille, and the United Kingdom is a Hague Apostille Convention country, so one apostille from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) is all that is needed if they do.
Yes. Your fingerprints can be taken at the South African High Commission. Contact us first: MGA Experiences advises you, makes the arrangements and manages the South African side of the process for you.
Plan it against your visa submission date. There is no expiry date printed on the SAPS certificate itself, so the date of issue is what counts. Tell us when you intend to submit and we plan backwards from it.
